FREE SAFETY CHECK TO BEAT WINTER FREEZE

Motorists are being advised about the best ways to stay safe on the roads this winter.
With predictions that temperatures will be similar to last winter, Inchcape Volkswagen retailers are offering help get ready for the cold with a free winter check.
Retailers will inspect a vehicle’s lights, wiper blades, windscreen washer, brakes, tyres and battery, to highlight the importance of routine maintenance.
Inchcape Volkswagen also suggests switching to winter tyres in low temperatures will dramatically improve a car’s performance.
An Inchcape Volkswagen representative, said: “The easiest way to ensure a car is ready for the cold weather is by making the most of our free winter checks.
“Our technicians will make sure that everything is prepared for safe winter driving.”
The big freeze in 2010 caused a dramatic reduction in the volume of road traffic across the UK, with many motorists struggling to keep control of their cars because of poor grip.*
“Many people aren’t aware that once the road temperature drops below 7oC, normal tyres start to under-perform.
“Motorists can significantly improve a car’s grip and performance in these colder conditions by fitting winter tyres.
“In addition, motorists should always make sure they pack a winter breakdown kit in the boot of their car, including a spade or shovel, blankets and food and drink.”
